Description and Review
The South Korean handset maker, LG has gone all out this year and is in its best form since the inception of its G series. Ahead of the Mobile World Congerss 2016, the brand has announced its next flagship device called G5 at a special event. And, bedazzled we are! This handset comes with a lot of first for LG and has totally blown us with the innovations it brings to the table. LG has finally broken the mould of its design and taken a new direction. We bring this brief overview of the handset for those who are already spell bound by the handset and have made up their mind to go for the handset.
Why Should You buy?
LG G5 boasts of a modular design wherein, the battery can be removed by sliding out the bottom part of the handset. Moreover, the modular lower part of the smartphone can be replaced with other bottom panels with additional functionality. LG has already showcase LG Cam Plus module, which adds more functionality to the dual camera setup on the rear panel as well as additional battery capacity.
Always on display
This is the new technology that has been adopted by South Korean handset maker for its flagship users. It keeps the display of the handset on with clock and other important information displayed. The handset maker claims that the always on display has been designed to consume minimal battery hence it is not something to worry about.
This smartphone is the first from the South Korean brand to come with a fingerprint scanner. This is the first time that LG has removed the rear mounted buttons in favor of the fingerprint scanner.
Corning Gorilla Glass 4
Having a Quad HD display is not much of novelty if there is not protective layer safeguarding it against falls. LG has protected the display of the new flagship with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4 layer.
Since the failure of LG Optimus 3D, this is the first smartphone from the South Korean handset maker to features a dual camera setup on the rear panel.
Why Should You Not buy?
Semi Modular design is not that practical
The biggest highlight of the handset also happens to be one of its drawbacks. While its a revolutionary technology, LG is not offering any of the modules complementary with the handset. And to have to spend extra to use the main feature of a device that already costs upward of INR 50,000 is not something we appreciate.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
The best alternative to LG G5 is Sony’s flagship device, Xperia Z5 Premium. Featuring Sony’s class leading Metal design with chrome finish, this smartphone comes with features like fingerprint scanner, 4K display, 23 Megapixels camera and powerful 2 GHz Octa-core processor. Moreover, the handset also costs a lot less than the LG G5 and offers better looks and performance.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
If you are into LG G5 for the semi modular gimmick, you would be better off with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with its brilliant dual curved display and you do not have to pay extra for it. This smartphone also comes with similar Octa-core processor and always on display. However, Samsung has done away with useless gimmicks to come up with a brilliant device that makes a lot of sense.
